Alrighty….made me some laundry soap last night on the stove….(never thought I’d say that!). I’ve got a load in now. If this stuff actually works I will save millions!! I’ll pass the recipe along if this experiment turns out to be a success. Although my batch is a bit ‘rubbery’. With one cheap box of each ingredient I could potentially make enough soap to last me years.
Let’s hope this crap works…
I broke out the ‘hand me down’ antique apron while ‘cooking’ my soap and felt very old fashioned I might add. It made me think that this would be one of my chores when I’m on my dream off-the-grid farm someday. Followed by walking out to my apple orchard, loading some apples into my apron and bringing them inside to make apple pie while my soap simmers and the bread from my own flour bakes. Mmmmm…a city girl can dream. I hope ‘someday’ hurries up and gets closer:)

Hey! That's my life, Hayley….let's trade bread recipes. 😉
When can we come and live with you…? hahaha
Living the dream, folks. Living the dream!
Never even thought about making soap 😀 But why not. I like it when we can cheat on the supermarked.
Living the dream.
very cool! talk about recycling!
Come live the country life here. Clyde hasn't seen you in ages….. Mucking, cooking, gardening, HEAT 100 degrees plus most of the year except now 40 something going to the 30's tonight. wow what pics that would make Lynn
Question… did you have on the stillettos with your old fashion apron? LOL! I make the home made soap off the Duggars web pg. 🙂
I don't want to beat a dead horse here but I think we might be soul sisters from a previous like-Amish I dream of country biscuits and gravy while I raise chickens, make goat cheese, darn socks and silently protest the destruction of holly hobby doll collections?
Not sure what part of Michigan you grew up in, but here in the Thumb we see A LOT of Amish & Mennonite stores. They have tons of homeade items there, Laundry Soap being one of them. I love it! I did see the coolest thing as well..not so sure how it fits in there..a giant bag of nothing but the marshmallows from Lucky Charms! I was amazed! Hope your soap worked!
Reminds me of a song I heard & actually used to sing (once in a country church) as a child in north Mississippi, where I grew up. It was "Gran'ma's Lye Soap," and I would stamp my foot as I sang it to the rooftops! I think it was a pentecostal ditty of some kind, although I was Baptist at the time…Maybe Jonny is familiar with it? lol. Oh, ok, not his genre. lol.
So, I am very excited to hear if the soap turned out or if it was too rubbery and you made tires for your vehicle? I also want to know if you were in your stillettos and singing show tunes so loud that Randy Jackson could hear you while you were cooking soap?!!!! 🙂 ha ha….
Mary Kay
You're a riot! Now THAT's a recipe I'd love to have, I'd be into saving millions!
Will you name your suds-solution? How about "Haylie's Comet", HA! –Connie
Lynn-We talk about Clyde all the time!! And how you guys walked a buffalo down Hollywood Blvd. HAHAHAHAHA!!!
Bobbi-I forgot the stilettos! What was I thinking. "Oh this, cowboy? Mama's just makin some sexy suds" haha. I have a few recipes…the Duggars is one I want to try, but the batch was HUGE. Figured I'd start a little smaller to see if it even worked. Love me some Duggars.
Shannon- I grew up in West Bloomfield, near Detroit. We did not have Amish anywhere near us or else I would have left my family and went Amie. A bag of Lucky Charms Marshmallows? That is genius-ly stupid….love!
Soul sister Candice- whichever of us gets our farm first will bring the other one with:)!!
Connie- Haylie's Comet???!!!! OH MY WORD!!! You might have started a new business venture!! HAHAHAHAHHA
Mary Kay- As rubbery as it was it worked!!! I will post the recipe soon. And yes I was singing. Can't you tell by my writings that I'm obnoxious!! I never shut up! hahaha
Donna- Jonny knows the strangest songs. He probably knows this one!
I've made the laundry soap & bought a book so one of these days I can get around to making bath soap.
My mother can't decide if I'm turning Amish, or going nuts.
There's a bulk food store (Amish-owned) about 1/2 hr. from me that has those marshmallows!
I just made my first batch of dry soap and have been really happy with it..It's just 2 bars of Fels Naptha, hit it with a grader. 6 cups of Borax, 4 cups baking soda, 4 cups super washing soda. Stir it all up (stay in a well ventilated area because it tends to fly around) and there you have it. I can't remember which website I got it off from but I am very happy with it. Happy Adventures 🙂

google knows it 😀
