Thanks Family Fun magazine for this idea! Don’t know how I never thought of this!!!
My kids eat those readymade waffles all the time. So easy to pop in the toaster and run out the door when we are running late. Which sadly is ALL the time. haha. Never thought before to make my own and freeze them. That way I know what’s in them. Genius, Family Fun mag! Took me under 30 minutes start to finish to make 100 and saved a ton of money!
Mom- you’ve gotten into bulk cooking, you’re going to be sooo proud:)
*screw you EGGO
Nice! My parents would do this for us too. Pancakes work well too!
nice. Will try those next.
What's good about making the food yourself vs buying it frozen is that homemade usually has way less sodium. This is good for soup or stew too.
true Tracy. I'll try soup and stew. My mom cooks pans and pans of noodles and freezes them in olive oil. Warms up tasting just the same. The freezer is an awesome thing:)
Right on sisters! I've done waffles, soup, spaghetti sauce, pork chops, "BBQ" sauce (a FABULOUS recipe from my Memaw that doesn't taste like traditional BBQ sauce, more like Manwich, but 1,000 times better), and sausage balls – they're not just for holidays and baby showers, they make a great breakfast every once in a while, just pop them in the toaster oven. I am a huge fan of freezing! I try to only buy meat when it's on sale and just put it straight in the freezer. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Haylie, I don't think you remember me because it has been a while but I know you & your mom Nancy from your sister show Growing Pains.
Anyway what I do is make smaller portions in tupperwear so that all you have to do it just pop it in a microwave.
One thing I do is, I buy chicken breasts in bulk…(10 lbs.)…place them in my 2 crock pots with a little salt and pepper(optional)…fill with water (about 1/4 of the way is all)..cook on low for about 6-8 hours depending on the size of those breasts..HA!…I then take them out and let them cool. Once cooled, I hand shred them and package in small quantities in freezer paper…then into a freezer bag. I put about 5 small freezer paper packages in each gallon freezer bag. (each package almost looks like a 6-inch Subway-sandwich roll when I'm done with it…just to give you a visual) Seems like a lot of work..but not really…only about 30 minutes once chicken is cooled. I then can pull out one small package to cook a meal with or 2 small packs if cooking a larger meal. I use mine for chicken-n-dumplings, chicken gumbo, chicken enchiladas, chicken salad sandwiches, and anything else "chickeny". Oh yeah…don't throw away the left over broth from the crock pots…it freezes easily and makes for good starter for soups..etc. 😀
Nice Deanne! Great tips! Chicken and dumplings might be my fav!
I keep saying I'm going to make waffles ahead of time, but I never do. Glad to hear it only took you 30 min. I have no excuses. I'm sure I can give up 30 min of sleep to get this done. Sheesh! (sad that I have to give up sleep just to fit something in these days… I will survive this time in my life, right? Just say yes.)
Erin- When your making them pancakes or waffles in the morning just quadruple the batter. And double pan it. It really is simple and 30 minutes was me also washing dishes and cooking dinner… You can do it mama!!
