Anyone drink almond milk?
I was told recently that I needed to post how I make almond milk:) Everyone I’ve made it in front of, has started exclusively making it for their families as well. It is Soooo easy, saves a TON of money and you can change up the recipe to fit your liking!
I make 3 gallons a week! Yes I have piglets!! If your fam drinks almond milk you will be amazed at how much better it tastes homemade. It’s also one of those items that you can buy organic and still be shocked at the ingredients list. With all the preservatives and my favorite ‘natural flavors’ you don’t know what you are drinking! Once you look up what ‘natural flavors’ can entail you will probably steer clear…yuck!
So here it is:
To make about a half gallon (depends on your blender)
-a good blender
-a milk straining bag
-1 1/2 cups almonds (give or take, experiment with different amounts until you find what fits your liking)
-5 pitted dates (you can you use figs too…again depending on how sweet you want it, add or subtract)
-a splash of vanilla extract
-a pinch of salt
My out of focus ingredients:) |
Soak your almonds overnight in water. I use filtered water because it absorbs into the almonds. If you wouldn’t drink from your tap don’t use it:)
Once they are finished, drain and really rinse them well, until the water runs clear.
I then throw them and all the ingredients into my trustee vita-mix, fill with filtered water and blend.

Can't wait to try! Have you ever made your own peanut butter? It is amazing!
NO WAY! I'm so impressed! We looove almond milk, but I never thought to make it! Are you sure you're not Amish?
So it's settled. You need a Country Shop in Oak Glen to be the Singing-Milk-Lady and I need to get me a Vita-Mix!
Can't thank you enough for this recipe, I'll be making regularly! And almond flour? I love when there's no waste, would love Mom's recipe if she's willing…
THANK YOU!!!

OMG…thanks so much for this great recipe! I've been using 90 cal. vanilla flavored almond milk to my P90x shakes every day for 2monrhs now. This is such a healthier way to do it! I definitely am going to try this… Thanks bunches for this recipe, especially for my "3 little piglets "too! haha 🙂
Interesting, another reason for me to buy a Vitamix, hehe. Where do you buy milk bags?

I make wedding cakes as a business so I am not a complete stranger to the kitchen…but you have sufficiently blown my mind!!!
You will be amazed at how different it tastes!! Let me know what you think:)
You can get them at most health food stores. I found them on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=nut+milk+bag
Wow thank you!!!
I wish I was Amish…not really….kinda really….
Yes I do!!
Let me know if you guys like it compared to the store stuff:)
Will get right on askin mama:)
Yum! Yes I love it! Just started adding honey to the mix… never like peanut butter until recently. Also started doing almond butter too. Sooo yummy on apple slices drizzled with maple syrup. Aaaand going to the kitchen to snack right now!
What!!?? That's awesome! 🙂
My dream is to be that mom that makes amazing cakes for every occasion… maybe I will come intern for you! I took the Wilton's course at Michaels which was fun last year but have yet to actually make a cake for anything other than class:)
If I can do it, You sure can! Come anytime. I'll introduce you to farm life in south GA, too! (cotton and peanuts) Brides can be some funny folks. They all pack their personalties (or their mom's 😉 in their dream cake design and it is ALWAYS a fun interaction. Ahhh, the drama! Haha! I have 3 girls so my time is coming!!!
Oh yeah, check out the latest cake pics on my fb Amy Ellington Perryman. "Welcome to my world" if you wish. 🙂
Honey is a great idea! I try to use local honey in anything I can, really helps my oldest and my husband with their allergies! I am going to try to make hazelnut and coca butter, our very own nutella 🙂
Nah…the Amish wish they were YOU!!!
So we made the almond milk, YAY! Soooooo delish, way more almond-ie-er than store bought. But I confess, we put in a squeeze of Hershey's chocolate and a squirt of whip cream on top this first time around, YUM!
And now I have a milk bag full of almond "dust" waiting to magically turn into cookies…(hint, hint:)

I've been making my own soy milk, but have yet to try the almond variety.
Also have a jar of homemade vanilla in the pantry. It rocks.
How long before it expires?
