Oh Pinterest…you’ve given me so many experiments to try with the kids… How I love thee…
Remember that slimy play dough like stuff called Gak and Flubber? Well, we made it today with stuff I already had in the kitchen! Easy Peasy! I used a recipe I found from Steve Spangler Science (which by the way has a sign-up to receive a weekly science experiment by email… more projects to follow!)
In one mixing bowl combine 8 oz of Elmers glue and 8 oz of warm water. Here is the part where you could add food coloring or Kool Aid mix(for color) or keep it white. I used Wiltons gel cake coloring just because it is WAY more vibrant than normal food coloring. The kids chose green for our first batch.
In another bowl mix 1/2 cup warm water with 1 teaspoon of Borax. Stir until it is dissolved. Borax should not be used by the kids…but I figured if I keep an eye on them and have them wash there hands after it would be ok. There are Borax-free recipes out there I just didn’t have the proper ingredients on hand.
If only I had sound to accompany these pics of Renn! The twins were yelling “Babies first pour!!! You’re a big girl now baby!!!!” -at the top of there ecstatic lungs!! hahaha |
Slowly add the Borax mixture to the glue bowl while stirring. It will immediately thicken into a slimy substance
Awesome…check out the oooey gooey lady (lisa murphy) you'll find endless fun for the kids:-)
This looks like fun…had to be a exciting for them, have the kids seen the old Disney movie Flubber? I still love the old Disney movies.
