Oh this old thing?  This would be my (raised beds) garden planted and built by yours truly:)  The beginning…. 4 beds and a few pots today…acres in the future!  Think big right…crawl before you run.  Still a bit of a mess…in the process of cleaning up:)

Started out my garden with Broccoli, Kale, Carrots, Red Onions, White Onions, Shallots, Chives, Thyme, Cilantro, Garlic, 3 different kinds of lettuce, Basil, Rhubarb, Oregano, Peppermint, Cauliflower, Soybeans and a few pots of potatoes.  A good start….something I’ve wanted to do forever.  Let’s just hope with my lack of knowledge and experience I don’t kill it!   I can’t wait until it’s all ready:)!!!  So exciting it’s started to bloom!

Special thanks to my hired waterer and weeder, Miss Saylor Monroe.

  1. Hahaha! If I hadn't had to haul 28 bags of soil up a flight of stairs and 12 bags of gravel I probably would have!! haha. Hard labor is well, HARD!! But it will make me take extreme care of it so it was not all for nothing!
I will prune in heels and a string bikini though…or nude. I need to tan this pasty bod of mine. hahahaha Kidding!!

  2. Very nice raised-bed garden! I have some broccoli and rhubarb recipes if you're ever looking for some. I picked up "Survival Mom" by Lisa Bedford today. She has a blog you might like http://www.thesurvivalmom.com. So nice to have a cute little helper, too!

  3. Nice! I bought wood for my raised beds this week but I haven't put them together. The Tennessee planting season begins about the first of April, end of March. I'm going to plant broccoli, lettuce, and carrots next week and more stuff in the middle of April. It will be my first time using raised beds. I planted a garden last year in the ground but nothing but cucumbers grew. I was so mad, haha. We have bad clay soil in middle Tennessee.

    Good luck on your garden!

  4. Gorgeous job, Haylie! I want raised beds so badly. I love that we have a huge yard with plenty of space, but I'm a bit of an aesthetic perfectionist and I just like the look of raised beds with paths between. Not to mention all the other big benefits that come with raised beds, like soil quality, not having to bend over as far, etc. Your beds are gorgeous and I always liked the look of a string bikini under farmer bibs. 🙂 Congrats on a job well done!

  5. YOUR GARDEN!!!
How exciting, and you built it? I'm so impressed! It' beautiful!
I've never seen a raised garden, what are the dimensions? I want to illegally put one on our fire escape and grow cilantro, corn, black beans and margaritas, HA!
    CONGRATULATIONS!!!
    Connie
