Today was a special one!!
I was awoken at 7am to my phone ringing. It was my mama, calling to tell me that my sister-in-law was in labor. We all rushed to meet at the hospital and VERY shortly after, 9am, my new tiny niece arrived! Her name is Brooklyn and she has got to be one of the most gorgeous babies I have ever seen! She is already smiling!! I know they say that this is an uncontrollable reflex and doesn’t mean anything with an infant…but she only does it when being talked to:) ooooohhhh I’m IN LOOOOVE!!

“I’m half an hour old!” |
I took my nephew Dashel (The very proud new BIG BROTHER) home with me while mommy and daddy are at the hospital. So my house has been filled with very loud laughter, squealing and screaming all day. They all crashed the second they hit the pillows!
Once the kids were asleep…I got to batch cooking for my “apocalypse freezer”. Thank you sooo much to Connie for her recipe, in the comments of post #61. OH MY WORD!!! People if you wanna taste the most amazing sauce ever, make this recipe. Jonny and I doubled the recipe and made a gigantic pot of it!! This sauce can be eaten like soup!! I probably ate the equivalent of 5 bowls….just sayin. So Mrs Connie…Hot Dang….thank you soooo much for sharing. Question though… What did the catering company put it on? It seriously could top anything but, it would be interesting to know the ‘famous’ collaboration:)
Hmm, I just looked at the sauce recipe; what about serving it over spaghetti squash? It also might be good over meat or fish. I know it's got a beef base, but I picture trying it over chicken. Or noodles, like beef stroganoff. Please share what you do with it!
P.S. Brooklyn is already amazing. How many thirty minute old babies have that kind of gaze? I can't wait to meet her in person!
I know right! She was soooo alert!!
I'll be putting this sauce on everything:)
Hi Haylie,
-Congratulations on your new niece! Sooooo precious and I love her name!
-Your super-hero-son is too cool–that face! It reminds me of that great pic where he's staring at the Easter Bunny, ready to take him down!
-The catering co. would always put that sauce on bow tie pasta. The "pleats" hold a lot of the sauce when it's thick enough. ('Dr.Who' fans also get a kick out of all the little bow ties!)
I love that you tried it and like it!
I hope others give it a try too if you and I haven't already caused a fungus shortage!
Drink in that beautiful new baby along side the sauce!
Connie
Aloha Haylie,
I can't help but laugh whenever you post about your end of the world food preps! My spouse thinks I'm nuts that I stock up on apocalyptic food when we go to Costco. I can't stop watching 2012 and my friends all laugh at me. We shall see who's laughing when they knock on my door wanting my rations! ( Not really, I'll pull a Jesus and share my food with the starving)
Seriously- new niece is precious! My ovaries hurt looking at her picture.
I'm going to try that sauce and get back to watching WTSHTF videos on you tube then bug out to my hidden bunker to fight zombies. Perhaps motherhood makes us feel like stocking up in order to preserve our families. *wink*
P.S. It was served as a side dish with any great cut of beef. But you and Karen have the right idea, it's great on anything or just on its own. I love it on french style cut green beans with crushed fried onions on top, or really just drinking it from a mug! C.
