All my kids share a room.  Some people think this is weird and have a problem with it but you know what I don’t care.  They love being together and really comfort one another.  Maybe it’s because I have lived so much of my life either on a boat or a tour bus, but I think family always works best when your crammed together.  Your siblings are the first people you learn to tolerate, share with, deal with and learn to find common and middle ground with.  What better way then to have to learn to deal with them 24/7 before being tossed out in the cold real world.  I don’t know I could be crazy…but it worked with me pretty well!  I was looking at bunk beds the other day and came across some of the most amazing bedrooms I’ve ever seen!  I would have freaked when I was little to have one of these as my room!!  .  So I might steal one of these ideas…..  Which is your favorite?

  1. I love those rooms, I would have killed to have a room like that when I was a kid. I think I like the ones where the beds are all along the same wall. Leaves a lot of room for play!

  2. Those are awesome! I had to share a room with two of my sisters growing up, so I would have LOVED something like this! My two favorites are the first and third pics. I like that they have built in shelves for each bed so the kids can have their own "personal" area of books or whatever! Super great idea!

  3. Hi Haylie,

Once again I'm in sync with your thinking.
In a NYC apt, we just recently split our 2 boys and 2 girls, but for the first 12 years it was double bunks in a 10×12 room!

Yes, they fight like cats and dogs, but that's what prepares them for the lions and tigers and bears!

    You have great instincts,

    P.S. hands down pic #1
P.S.S I have to figure out how to post without "anonymous" popping up. (?)

  4. I really like the first one! It's separate yet open and really easy to talk to each other.

  5. I really like the last one but it doesn't seem to safe for kids (no guard rail) so my second choice would be the first one. Interestingly enough they really resemble a larger version of tour bus bunks. I seem to remember your husband referring to them as "comfortable little coffins that are well ventilated and you get to wake up." Fabulous space saving idea!

  6. I love how #1 has reading lamps. Then older sister on top can finish HW later into the evening or if someone has a comic reading fetish hten you won't hear "Moooooommm so and so won't turn off her light…" Very cool. If I end up having as many kids as my hubby mom we may have to do this. 😉 (She had 9!)

  7. I definitely like #1 the best! What a fantastic idea and I don't think it's weird at all to have all of your kids in one room! They'll grow up to be very close!

  8. Wow #1 is winning! Laurie are you reading this? haha I'm gonna have Tom give me an estimate to build this thing! Love love love it! I'll let you guys know if we end up being able to do it:)

  9. I like #1 as well with the top bunk being my favorite so the kids can look at each other and visit. The bottom bunks are kind of isolated. My 3 girls shared a room for 15 years, then 2 girls shared for another 3 years. College tends to make the rooms less lived in. I think my girls will always cherish their nightly visits in their room at night after the lights are out. Even now when everyone is home, they will have a slumber party in 1 room and visit and giggle till early in the morning.
